5 Reasons Why You Should Have An About Section On Your Website
Hello! I hope everyone is having a great Monday! Today I'm talking about Why you should have an about section on your website. I've seen too many websites offering services and products who don't have an about section listed on their website. As a graphic designer it's kind of my pet peeve, I want to know who I'm working with or sending my money to. I like to see a face with a name. Below I'm explaining why you should have an "About" tab on your website.
People want to know who you are!
If you're in the business of selling a product or service or if you blog here and there, people coming to your site want to get to know you. They want to know what you are about, what you like and dislike and how they may be able to relate to you. It's also great if you add a picture in your about section as well. People like to put a face with a name. You never know, you may run into one of your customers/readers in the airport or store and they will be able to recognize you by face and name.
People want to know what you do and what you have to offer.
Explain what you do in your about section. You don't have to write a full page of what you do but a few sentences telling about your service, product or blog would be a good start.
People want to know why you do what you do.
Let them know your passion for doing what you do. Tell them your personal story of how and when you got started, let them know your process. Let them know your background and credentials it's always good when you share this information it lets one know that you know your stuff and you're not faking it!
People want to know where you are located and where they might find you or you're products.
It's always nice to know where something is coming from whether it be an order coming in the mail or just reading a great blog post, people want to know where this person writing this great content is located. You don't have to give them your complete address but telling your city and or state would be good information.
It gives people a sense of confidence and calmness in working/purchasing from you.
For me, I feel better when I've read an about section and feel like I'm working with a human and not just a website, Lol! I feel like since I've seen your face and you've told me a little bit about you I can honestly give you my dollars with no problem. In some way, I feel like I can trust you a little bit.
If people can relate to you, see your face or get to know you just a little they are more likely to keep coming back to your website or blog. Reading this, I hope I have convinced you to put an About section on your website if you don't already have one. It will help you and your business out in the long run.
